Two tracks today, on completely opposite ends of the spectrum. First is a relatively new Kromestar and Sun of Selah track. Very low key and groovy. I hadn’t heard Sun of Selah before, but I’ll defintely be checking out some more stuff. Completely opposite from the low key Kromestar is the rather successful Bare. Releasing a number of big name tracks last year, Bare has been working on more collaborations as of late, but as always his production is very tight. Life is an oldie, but a goodie. Enjoy.

time for some shameless self promotion-
First, BOMBSKWAD will be spinning at the Tahona Tequila Bistro on Pearl Street next Friday (1/14/11) with Fade to Grey and DJ Goodie! So, please come out and show some love it’s going to be a blast. Join the facebook group too.
Next, check the bombskwad soundcloud that I have hijacked as my own now. It’s full of half finished beats and audio doodles. I have been producing with Live since October and I messed around with an MPC1000 before that- I am far from having anything polished, but they can give you an idea of the sound I am trying to create- enjoy:
Keep it fresh and don’t forget the funky dubs:
SBTRKT w/ Jessie Wares: Nervous (Dub)
Untold: Never Went Away
Pursuit Grooves: Mr Softee
Skream: Rollin’ Kicks
Ramadanman:Carla
Quantum Soul(Ruckspin rmx):Long Time (Ruckspin Remix)
ENJOY!
Hello again, it’s been way too damn long since my last post! So, in an effort to make up for lost time I’m giving you a big grab bag of some choice picks. Enjoy!
First Up! TRUTH and their EP, Stranger Than Fiction, that was released earlier this month on Skream’s label, Disfigured Dubz. The whole EP is great with a nice variance in sound between the tracks, while maintaing an ominous atmosphere throughout. Their track, ‘Bubba Ho Step’, is a deep, dark banger that is just pumping with energy. Checkit:Bubba Ho Step
Next on the list is DJG. I recently had the distinct pleasure of seeing DJG open for N-Type at the Bluebird Theater in Denver and needless to say I was very impressed. Woe is the listener who lacks a subwoofer and that is unfortunate for DJG because he is surely a master of the subsonic frequencies, an accomplishment made apparent many times over last Friday at the Bluebird. DJG is one of my favorite producers- the whole arrangement and energy of his tracks are just on point every time. Recently, he released a single ‘Time is the Fire’- Here is Time Is The Fire
For a label that has only been around for a year, Grizzly has really been building up an awesome catalog. To explain the sound of the label best I will just quote Sinden, the founder, “As far as music policies go, those went out the window a long way back! I can only say that the common ground between each release is a shared enthusiasm. If I get excited about it, it’s a Grizzly record. I’ve never been one to get bogged down in genres, the best stuff is always the grey area tracks that don’t fall anywhere.[...] A producer friend summed it up very concisely the other week ‘its just quality and fun bass music’. Thats it!!!!” So enjoy the title tracks from this years releases:
Midnight Marauder-Sinden & SBTRKT
Chicken Lover (feat. Toni Toni Lee)-Bassanova
J-Wow, from Buraka Som Sistema, released his solo EP on Mad Decent this year and the title track is fuckin bangin! Definitely gets the bodies moving. Listen! O Dedo
Switching gears into some micro.house with Ark! His album, Arkpocalypse Now, was released this year on Perlon and the thing is chalked full with some low key grooves. Been playing this on repeat for the past couple days, definitely need to play these back out on the playa.
Sugar Of Brain (Featuring Lippie)
Finally, a couple selects from Jimmy Edgar’s new album, XXX. I first heard of Jimmy just earlier in the week when Skream posted the track ‘Physical Motion’ on his Facebook and I immediately started listening to more. Hailing from Detroit, Jimmy Edgar has been DJing raves since he was fifteen. While XXX isn’t exactly a Rave album, actually it’s not at all really, it is full of Prince-esque grooves and an ambiance of late nights and strip clubs.

London local and head in the scene-D1-dropping some thick basslines.
I love HYPERDUB. The label just has a great range of experimental/chipsound/dub artists. This remix from LV & Quarta 330 was released earlier this year. Super smooth. Love the voices and chip sounds escpecially.
Suzuran (LV & Quarta330 Remix)-Dong
King Midas Sound, another member of the Hyperdub lineup, released this track last year (2009). The track is very minimal and is pretty much strictly percussion and bass along with some sweeping synth pads. Simple is best in my opinion, but if you looking for something crazy this ain’t your track.
I just started listening to some James Blake and can I just say- it’s quite enjoyable. His tracks present a nice blend of funk/soul/dub/ and minimal. Great late night or after-hours tracks for sure.
Lastly, I present you with a Mount Kimbie remix. This track was released through Untold’s label, Hemlock Recordings, earlier this year. This original is a great minimal dub track, but Kimbie’s remix adds some refreshing lighter elements that really help pick the track up and move it forward.
Beacon (Mount Kimbie Remix)-LV & Untold

this track is just…too perfect for my personal taste. I posted a track by DJG on my last post-I suggest you pick up VOIDS ONE and TWO. Some of the tracks can get pretty atmospheric, but there is an undeniable groove throughout both albums. Definitely a producer I am going to keep my eye on.
